Gear and technique, explained from the evidence.

About this site

Archery Lab covers archery gear and technique. We write for archers who already compete and who would rather decide from reasons than from feel.

Archery gives you a great many choices, and each one is expensive. Even so, the information you decide from tends to come either from word of mouth or from the people selling the equipment. Filling that gap is what this site is for.

Three commitments

1. We show the reasoning

We do not stop at "it feels more stable" or "it flies better". We explain the mechanism behind it, and we keep what we verified separate from what remains our own conjecture.

2. We say so when we do not know

A flat assertion reads better, but an assertion without evidence distorts your judgement. Where we have not tested something, we say so. A hypothesis is presented as a hypothesis.

3. We disclose our interests

Reviews of products supplied to us, and articles containing affiliate links, say so in the article itself. We do not publish that kind of piece without disclosure.

We do not use reader data

We never look at an individual reader's score history or usage data to write an article — not even in anonymous aggregate. Our articles rest on publicly available information and on what the editorial team verified with its own hands.

About the images

Article cover images are sometimes generated with AI. When they are, the caption below the image says so. They are not photographs of a real product or venue, so details may differ from the real thing.

The explanatory diagrams inside an article, by contrast, are drawn by us. Those have to correspond one-to-one with what the text claims, so we do not generate them.

Corrections

When we find an error we correct the article and leave a note in it saying what was changed and why. We do not rewrite silently.
